Sustainability is in Our Roots.
Environmental preservation is a constant concern in the company's daily activities. VW Madeiras seeks to use natural resources rationally, in a way that does not harm flora and fauna during the production process. The intention is to combine economic development with environmental protection sustainably.
Since 1994, VW Madeiras has planted pine and eucalyptus seedlings and promoted the technical management of trees. This has allowed the company to become self-sufficient in wood production and obtain higher-quality products. Every year, VW Madeiras expands its reforestation areas with seedlings grown in its nursery.
While increasing its own wood production, VW Madeiras only uses raw materials from suppliers with reforestation programs.
The company also develops actions for the preservation of water sources and springs, in addition to promoting the recovery of degraded areas with the use of native tree seedlings produced in its nursery. These species are the target of research and genetic development for economic purposes.
Another initiative that promotes the rational use of natural resources is using rainwater in the boiler, which produces the steam that powers much of the industry.
Responsible resource use also includes using wood waste as fuel. Additionally, the industry treats glue and other chemicals appropriately, in accordance with current legislation, to prevent soil pollution. More than 80% of the water used in the process is reused.
